The role of the Night Wake Learning Support Worker

The Night Wake Learning Support Worker provides safe, calm and person-centred overnight support for learners in Chard. The role helps people feel safe and settled through the night while ensuring support is delivered in line with regulatory, contractual and internal requirements.

KPIs

  • Completes agreed night-time checks and follows Care Plans and Risk Assessments relating to learners, reporting any changes or concerns as necessary.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to local safeguarding procedures i.e. who to contact, correct procedure
  • Highlights and reports any overnight concerns through line management to ensure safe working practice and accountability.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to safe working practices to promote own safety and safety of others.

The Night Wake Learning Support Worker role is vital in helping learners feel safe, respected and supported overnight. This means responding to individual needs calmly, maintaining dignity and privacy, and supporting routines that help people start the next day well.

  • Can demonstrate they are able to support a wide range of learners overnight by working effectively as part of a wider team to meet the needs of the learners we support.
  • Encourage individual rights, independence, privacy and dignity during overnight support.
  • Demonstrate a person centred approach whilst supporting learners within their role ensuring the physical, emotional and cultural well-being of all individuals is actively promoted.
  • Respond to learners' overnight support needs in a calm, respectful and person-centred way.
  • Support settled routines, sleep hygiene and safe environments in line with individual support plans.

Effective communication

The Night Wake Learning Support Worker has an active role in delivering effective overnight support and should demonstrate this through timely and accurate recording and reporting. This involves contributing to individual plans and paperwork in a way that is fair, respectful and compliant with regulatory, contractual and internal requirements.

  • Accurately record night-time checks, support provided, incidents, concerns and relevant changes in presentation.
  • To actively liaise with families and friends in a way that promotes and encourages open communication and feedback.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with family members and friends in a way that promotes and encourages open communication and feedback.
  • Ensuring that appropriate, accurate and timely overnight records are kept in respect of incidents and accidents, support plans, risk assessments, reviews and other systems in place.
  • Completes reports demonstrating learner progress and achievement.
  • Update Support Plans, Risk assessments and Tutorials encouraging learner involvement through the promotion of learner voice.
  • Record and report any concerns or issues both internally and to within the team and the relevant external bodies i.e. CQC, Safeguarding, Local Authority.

The Night Wake Learning Support Worker needs to work as part of a team and is expected to work effectively and collaboratively with all colleagues supporting learners in Chard.

  • To work effectively as a team member and actively promote teamwork and team building which involves taking part in hand-overs and contributing to agenda/discussions at staff meetings.
  • The Night Wake Learning Support Worker shall read, implement, contribute, review and maintain individual support plans.
  • The Night Wake Learning Support Worker shall help individuals identify their needs, aspirations & support them to achieve their goals.
